The volumes of P2P



Cachelogic, a world leader in monitoring the traffic of Peer-To-Peer, has published a study on different types of files passing through P2P networks. That survey, based not on statistics or estimates, but on traffic level packages at major ISPs, led to the following interesting conclusions:

1) Types of files shared on more 4 main P2P networks:

  • Audio: 11.34%
  • Video: 61.44%
  • Others: 27.22%

2) 65% of audio files in MP3 format, and 12.3% in OGG format.
3) BitTorrent piuù is always used for the distribution of legal content (eg linux distro).
4) eDonkey is the network of choice for those who share files and download video.
