Complete all 'optimization of BitTorrent

BitTorrent The fact that BitTorrent is always the most efficient P2P network ever is now known that most. Thanks to its particular characteristics usually manages to get a download speed greater than that of any other software for file sharing. Nevertheless, BitTorrent has never really stated strongly and was often surpassed by other more immediate and simple to use, first of all Emule. Lately though, as you probably noticed, is taking place reversed, so that (mainly due to the closure of the server Emule by the authorities) more and more people begin to prefer the P2P network of Bittorrent.

The problem, however, and that the first impact with BitTorrent is often anything but painless: You used to use Emule is faced with a client that provides an even more impenetrable, whose operation is not always easy to understand . Sballottato between torrents and trackers, among peers and seeds, including private function integrated research, anyone could easily discouraged and lament the good old TO Emule ... then you add everything and the fact that the default configuration of BitTorrent is not suitable for all PCs, indeed most often is negative influence compared to the characteristics of their ADSL line.

In this article we will try to take familiar with BitTorrent and see how to configure it to make the most of your Internet connection and thus achieve the maximum download speed possible.

A small note before starting: the BitTorrent client reference we use in this guide is uTorrent, as it is the most popular and commonly accepted by the tracker.

  • Optimizing the TCP connection
    Download and run TCP Optimizer.
In the main screen identified the section "Connection Speed" correctly set the maximum speed of downloads (be careful because in this case the unit of measurement is the kbps) and down select "Optimal settings" and then confirm with "Apply changes" and reboot the PC.
    TCP Optimizer
  • Increase the maximum number of TCP connections "half-open."
If you have Windows XP SP2 the maximum number of connections "half-open" is limited to 10 and this factor greatly affects the file sharing (if you remember we already talked about here).
    Proceed as follows:

    1. Download this patch. Once launched the executable EvID4226Patch.exe opens a DOS console that will allow you to change the number of "half-open connections." The optimum setting is 100, so, hit the first "C" (Change Limit), and type "100", dates Sending and definitively confirmed with "Y".
    2. See the "Windows File Protection" that will warn you that some system files have been modified to include inviting the Windows CD to restore the situation. Ignore the warning by selecting "Cancel" and subsequently confirmed that it would not restore the original versions of system files by selecting "Yes".
    3. Restart the PC to make changes.
    4. Start uTorrent access in the "Options" then select "Preferences" and then "Advanced options". In the list of identified advanced parameters "net.max_halfopen" and change the default value ( "30") to a "80". Confirm the change by selecting "Set".

Warning: some automatic Windows updates automatically report the limit of connections "half-open" to 10, so remember to check it from time to time.

  • Set in an optimum manner all the parameters of connection uTorrent
This is one of the most important steps and requires that before everything is done calculating the speed of its ADSL line. Proceed as follows:

    1. Close all applications that access the Internet
    2. Open a new browser and run the speed test of ADSL line: you will return the speed of download and upload measured in kbps (kilobits per second). Since uTorrent instead used as the unit of measurement kbps (kilobytes per second), remember to divide by 8 kilobits in the values obtained from the test.
      test line speed ADSL
In my case (shown above) for example, dividing by 8 values obtained get:
about 100 kilobytes / sec. as maximum download speed
about 68 kilobytes / sec. as a maximum speed of the upload.
    3. From the console to access uTorrent under "Options" then select "Preferences" and then "Connection".
Enter the speed of download and upload calculated as follows:
Maximum upload rate = 80% della velocità di upload ottenuta nel test (nel mio caso: 68/100*80=55) Maximum download rate = 95% della velocità di download ottenuta nel test (nel mio caso: 100/100*95=95) uTorrent preferences Connection
    4. From the console to access uTorrent under "Options" then select "Preferences" and then "Bittorrent," and:
      • Set the "Global maximum number connections" with just the value of velocità di upload ottenuta nel test (in kbps) (nel mio caso: 550 con approssimazione)
      • set the parameter "Maximum number of connected peers for torrent" calculated as follows:
velocità di upload ottenuta nel test (in kBps) * 1,3 (nel mio caso: 55*1,3 = 72)
      • Set the parameter "Number of upload slots per torrent" calculated as follows:
1 + (velocità di upload ottenuta nel test (in kBps) / 6) (nel mio caso: 1+(55/6) = 10)

      uTorrent preferences BitTorrent

At this point your client is ready to start the download to their maximum effect of your line and I do not have to wish you good fun!

  2. NOTES
    1. I do not understand the use of TCP Optimizer "
    2. Why NOT use the internationalized version (in Italian) for the leadership ... if anything explaining how to do, even if it is a very simple

  3. @ beast: you answer in order:
    1. TCP Optimizer works on the Windows registry by changing the parameters relating to gestine of TCP / IP to obtain the maximum performance from your connection. Vedilo then as an optimizer of your ADSL, regardless of whether or not you use bittorrent / emule, etc.
    2. What you can say: I like English (especially because 'often translations in Italian are really low and misleading) ... ;-)

  4. Hello, congratulations for driving!
I wanted to ask you one thing, how can I change the time interval at which updates the bittorrent tracker?

Bittorrent that is sometimes starts updating tracker, I would be able to set this interval.

    What should I change?

    Hello
